IDE update troubleshooting

The automated update process within the IDE is a critical one, as it relies on the board, IDE, browser, host’s internet connection and Bela update server to all be working smoothly. As such, there may occasionally be room for things not going to plan. Here we collect common problems and solutions.

If your problem is not listed below, or the solution doesn’t work, please get in touch via the forum.

“Failed to fetch” error

Some Chromium-based browsers may fail to fetch the updates when disk space on the host is low-ish, resulting in the user being displayed a “Failed to fetch” error. Unhelpfully, this may result in a 30 MB file download failing even if there are a handful of GB of space available on the host. A workaround for this failure mode has already been implemented in the latest version, so future automatic updates should go through smoothly.

The solution, besides freeing up an unspecified amount of space on your computer, is to manually install the latest version of the IDE. To do so, download the most recent file starting with BelaDaemon from here, then drag it on top of the IDE and follow the instructions on screen. Once this manual step is completed, perform an automatic update in order to update the rest of the components.
